Details

Eccleston Du Faur was an important figure in late 19th century Sydney but today has been almost entirely forgotten. Sydneysiders are nevertheless greatly in his debt for his single-handed creation of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, and for the major role he played in the establishment of the Art Gallery of New South Wales. A man of very wide interests he was a skilled surveyor, keen scientific observer, promoter of tourism, and patron of exploratory expeditions. He also drew public attention to the scenic qualities of the Blue Mountains and the need to conserve the Grose River valley. The author's sympathetic portrayal of the life of this enigmatic visionary succeeds in restoring him to public view after being obscured for almost a century.

Soft cover, B5, vi + 58 pages, illustrations, sources, index.
