This anthology brings together the five published collections of word-children (poetry and prose) written by Chatham Islander Rena-May Hough, between 1997 and 2001. They include ‘Painting the Pages with Words’, ‘Upon Crystal Sands’, ‘Come Stroll with Me’, ‘Shadows of Moon Time’ and ‘This Island of Mine’. Much of the writing was done by candlelight during the evening and night through to dawn, whilst her children were asleep. Rena-May calls her poems ‘word-children’, as each of them has their own voice and message. She considers herself a word-weaver’ who writes to inspire, entertain and for the pleasure of her soul and her passion is to share her poetry and stories with others. Rena-May’s poems and prose are inspired by the local landscapes and seascapes, the ever-changing environments, and by the many different people who are resident or come as visitors to the Chatham Islands. Whether reflective, thought-provoking or challenging, her writing is always lively, frequently amusing and refreshingly honest. There is something for everyone in this entertaining anthology.

Soft cover, A5, 88 pages, section title pages in colour, notes, acknowledgements.
