New South Wales was pioneer in the move to set aside large areas of bushland for public recreation. Dedicated in 1879, Royal National Park on the southern outskirts of Sydney was the first in Australia and the second in the world. Today a network of parks, representative of the widely differing landforms in the State and including areas of outstanding natural beauty, preserves a heritage for this and future generations to enjoy.

The major part of this book deals in depth with a selection of vastly different regions which serve to illustrate the range of areas involved. Every national park and historic site in the State is listed, with brief details of location, size, main features, amenities, activities, access and availability of accommodation. Lavishly illustrated with nearly 300 full colour photographs and regional maps locating all national parks and historic sites, this book is both a valuable addition to the reference library and a practical travelling guide to New South Wales.
