This 902 page history of Australia, illustrated with many hundreds of engravings of the period, is one of the most comprehensive and fascinating documents about early Australia ever assembled. It has been taken from Cassell's Picturesque Australasia — the full work having been issued in four volumes in 1889 — covering, in addition to the pages facsimiled in this volume, New Guinea, New Zealand and Fiji. This first century of Australia's history covers not only all capital cities and major towns, but also its eighty-four chapters cover early exploration by sea and land, leading to our early agricultural, mining and industrial development.

The book records such vivid events as the Eureka Stockade and the exploits of bushrangers as well as the more normal daily life in city, town and in the bush. Of lasting value as a work of reference, this book will also remain a constant and proud reminder of Australia's heritage.

Hard cover, 902pgs, well illustrated. Near new. .
